The corona pandemic hit the music industry quite hard … artists, musicians, producers, organizers, basically all professions involved in the music industry are facing one of their biggest challenges so far. To help these people, our partner, the Wacken Foundation, started a rescue fund.
So, in May 2020, they decided to donate sums of up to 1.000 € as funds to musicians who had financial losses due to cancelled tours, to artists who had lost money because of cancelled engagements, to organizers of Heavy Metal events who had costs because of short therm concert concellations, etc.
In order to support our partner, we started a fundraiser. We came up with the idea to produce face masks with the Rotarian Metalhead Fellowship logo and sell them to our members. Once the members received their face mask, we kindly asked them to take a photo wearing the mask to share on social media. Many Rotary members who were not Fellowship members (yet) saw them, loved our idea, and asked us if they could also purchase a mask.
The selling of the masks went that well that we even had to re-order new masks from our supplier. Eventually, we were able to donate a sum of 3.000 EUR (almost USD $3,400) to the Wacken Foundation.
As of today, the Wacken Foundation has collected and disbursed in total 31.000 €, allocated to 40 different applications.
